Creating Space for Connection

A few years ago, when we first talked about bringing our entire FMA team together for an annual offsite, I wondered if it was worth the time, expense, and disruption.

We’re a remote company. We’ve gotten pretty good at working together from wherever we happen to be.

But I’ve learned something: working together and connecting with each other aren’t the same thing.

This Sunday, our team will come together for our annual offsite. People will travel in from several states, and for a few days, the normal work routine will be put on hold.

That’s intentional.

Recently, I was a guest on the New Perspective Podcast, talking about FMA’s journey—from the chaos of our early days to the culture and team we have today. As I told those stories, I realized again how much of our growth has happened through relationships.

Not another process. Not another technology. Not another meeting.

Through people.

Some of the most important conversations happen around a table, over a meal, walking together, or simply talking about things that would never make it onto a Zoom calendar.

Connectivity requires space.

As leaders, it’s easy to fill every available space with productivity. But trust, relationships, and culture are often built in the spaces we don’t measure.

So this week, we’re going to create some of that space.

I’m incredibly excited to see our team, laugh together, learn together, and create some memories along the way.
