“I’m not GETTING up today…”
From the backseat, our 4-year-old granddaughter was singing at the top of her lungs:
“I’m not GETTING up today…”
Pam and I looked at each other and couldn’t stop laughing.
She was so confident. So passionate.
Only problem? The real lyric from Trolls Band Together is, “I’m not GIVING up today.”
One word. Big difference.
If you are like me, there are days when not getting up sounds like a pretty good plan.
Days when you’re tired.
When a conversation didn’t go well.
When parenting feels overwhelming.
When marriage takes more patience than you feel like you have.
When life just feels heavy.
Some mornings the alarm clock isn’t the hard part. The hard part is the weight you feel before your feet even hit the floor.
But here’s what that backseat concert reminded me:
It’s okay to have days when you don’t feel like getting up.
Just don’t let that turn into giving up.
Peace doesn’t usually come from everything going smoothly. It often comes from knowing you stayed in it.
You kept loving. You kept forgiving. You kept trying.
Sometimes the bravest thing you’ll do all week isn’t something big and impressive.
It’s simply getting up.
And on those special days, may you be reminded of a little song by a Troll named Poppy.
“I’m not giving up today.
There's nothing getting in my way.
And if you knock knock me over
I will get back up again,”
