The Secret to Leadership That Lasts?  Take the Focus Off Yourself.

Some of my best business insights haven’t come from Zoom Rooms or webinars.

They’ve come while lacing up my shoes and running shoulder-to-shoulder with people pursuing something bigger than themselves.

This past weekend, our team at Fulling Management & Accounting sponsored a 6K with Team World Vision—walking, running, and rallying to bring clean water to communities that desperately need it. It’s a small act with massive ripple effects.

But here’s what I’ve discovered:
When you step into spaces of service, you stop asking “What’s in this for me?” and start seeing “What’s possible when we go together?”

It was at one of these events that the phrase hit home:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

And that’s not just a proverb—it’s a playbook for real leadership.

  • Serving others clears the clutter.

  • Working in unity reveals your blind spots.

  • And strangely enough, focusing less on business can lead to your best business ideas.

So if you're a leader chasing long-term impact—
Consider running a race that’s not about you. You might just discover where you're really meant to go.
