Full Circle Healing: When Compassion Crosses Continents

Sometimes healing goes beyond medicine.

After what should’ve been a minor meniscus surgery, my recovery took an unexpected detour. Early Sunday morning, the pain and swelling in my knee became unbearable. Pam rushed me to the hospital, where a series of scans and labs revealed a severe post-op infection in my knee joint.

I was admitted for further care. But what I didn’t expect was the gift that came next...

Enter Nurse Mesky — my overnight nurse — all the way from Ethiopia.

Let that sink in.

Just 30 days earlier, I had been in Ethiopia, serving others. Now here I was, being served by someone from that very country.

Only God could orchestrate that kind of connection.

During her shift, we swapped stories, shared photos of her hometown, and even called a friend of mine who’s currently serving in Ethiopia. Her radiant smile and calming spirit made a rough moment feel a whole lot lighter.

And more than once, she thanked me for serving her people.

But truly — Mesky was the real hero in this story.

Just a reminder: sometimes the greatest impact comes not from procedures or prescriptions, but from connection, kindness, and a heartfelt smile.
